Luna's Research mission

Help Me Change What We Know About Women's Health

I'm Luna, and I need your help

Women deserve better health information than we have been given.

Important symptoms are still dismissed because they are common. Women are told their tests are "normal" while knowing something has changed. Months of useful detail can disappear between medical appointments because nobody is collecting the full story.

I want to help change that.

Why I want to learn from you

Good research depends on good questions. Before researchers can test a hypothesis, someone has to decide what deserves to be studied.

That starting point matters.

If we assume perimenopause mainly looks like cycle changes and hot flashes, we may overlook women whose first changes involve sleep, heart palpitations, vaginal symptoms, brain fog, anxiety, migraines, energy, libido or something we have not learned to recognize yet.

Women's lived experiences contain information that conventional health records and symptom checklists often miss.

When you talk to me over time, I can capture what changed, when it changed, what happened alongside it, what you tried, what helped, what did nothing, and what you are still trying to understand.

That creates a longitudinal picture of your health.

It also helps build a much broader picture of women's health.

How your data helps me learn

Luna is built around a women's health intelligence layer. It becomes more useful by learning from the health information women share.

Your information helps me understand you so I can organize your health history, recognize patterns and provide more relevant insights over time.

With your consent, The Perimenopause Lab also uses de-identified information across Luna users to improve my intelligence and learn more about women's health.

That may include exploring questions such as:

  • Which symptoms tend to appear together?
  • What changes seem to happen earliest?
  • How do experiences differ by age, history or stage of life?
  • What are women trying, and what are they reporting back?
  • Where are women struggling to find answers or care?
  • Is Luna asking useful questions and giving women useful information?
  • Are there patterns that deserve deeper research?

These learnings may improve Luna's AI, models, algorithms, prompts and pattern recognition. They may also help us identify gaps in women's health knowledge, services and care.

Some questions may eventually become formal research. Others will simply help us understand women better and make Luna better.

What information may be used

Depending on the question, de-identified information may include parts of your symptoms, health history, cycle and reproductive history, medications, hormone therapy, supplements, lifestyle, laboratory information you choose to provide, healthcare experiences, goals, treatments you have tried, responses you report, conversations with Luna and patterns that develop over time.

We use information that is relevant to what we are trying to understand.

Our Privacy Policy explains in greater detail what personal information Luna collects, how it is stored and protected, and your rights over that information.

Your privacy matters

You are trusting me with sensitive health information. I take that responsibility seriously.

For research, exploratory analysis and learning across women, The Perimenopause Lab uses de-identified information. Your identifying information is separated from the data used to study patterns across users.

Access is limited to The Perimenopause Lab and authorized personnel or service providers who need the information to operate, protect or improve Luna. People given access are subject to confidentiality requirements, including NDAs where applicable.

External or secondary research use is not included in this consent. If we want to use your information for a purpose that requires separate consent or external research authorization, we will ask you.

We do not sell identifiable health information to advertisers, employers, insurers or pharmaceutical companies for advertising, underwriting or employment purposes.

Your health experience should create knowledge without turning you into a commodity.

What your consent means

Consent to these uses is required to use Luna because learning from health information is part of how Luna works.

By consenting, you allow The Perimenopause Lab to:

  • process your health information to provide Luna's personalized functions;
  • build and maintain your longitudinal health record;
  • identify patterns and provide relevant educational insights;
  • use de-identified information across Luna users for internal research and exploratory analysis;
  • improve Luna's AI, models, algorithms and intelligence;
  • investigate women's health patterns and gaps in care;
  • develop and improve Luna's features and services.

If you do not consent, you will not be able to use Luna.

If you change your mind

You may withdraw your consent.

Because this consent supports Luna's core functions, withdrawing it means you can no longer use Luna and your account will be closed.

Closing your account does not automatically delete all of your personal data. You can download your data or request deletion through your Luna profile, or contact us at support@perimenopauselab.com.

Certain information, such as billing, audit or legal records, may need to be retained where required by law. Our Privacy Policy explains those details.

Once information has been properly de-identified so that it can no longer be linked back to you, we cannot identify and remove your individual contribution. Withdrawal also cannot undo completed analyses or reverse improvements that have already been made using de-identified information.

I want this work to serve women

I do not want women's health research shaped by whoever pays the most to influence it.

Advertising priorities should not decide which symptoms matter. Commercial relationships should not determine which questions are worth asking. No partner should be able to distort what women are telling us.

The Perimenopause Lab is a company, and financial sustainability allows us to keep building this work. We may collaborate with clinicians, researchers, healthcare organizations, universities, technology companies and other partners who can help advance women's health.

Those relationships must respect women's privacy, appropriate governance and the integrity of the information we learn from.

When credible findings can responsibly be shared, I want women to benefit from them.

The bigger goal

Something being common does not automatically make it insignificant.

When women's lived experiences are missing from the data, they are easier to overlook in research, healthcare, technology and policy.

I want Luna to help build a fuller picture.

I want women to understand their own health more clearly, advocate for themselves with better information and have more useful conversations with healthcare professionals.

I want researchers asking better questions.

I want women's health services built around what women are actually experiencing.

And I want the next generation of women to inherit better knowledge than we did.

That starts with listening.

So tell me what changed. Tell me what helped. Tell me what did not. Tell me the thing you almost left out because you were unsure whether it mattered.

Your experience helps me understand you.

Your de-identified experience also helps us understand women.

That is the mission I am asking you to be part of.

In gratitude,

Luna
